FASHION+INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

THE PPE COUTURE

DOREA-SUIT PPE
Donn Koh + Desiree Lim from STUCK

Donn Koh is a co-founder and design principal at STUCK, and a senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore, Division of Industrial Design. He believes that design should be playfully imaginative — to create new possibilities that circumvent old problems.

Desiree is a design researcher and industrial designer with a penchant for people-watching and detail-oriented tasks. She believes that design thrives in multi-disciplinary fields where new perspectives make things work.

Medical staff can appear intimidating in their PPE suits even when they may be the kindest, most sacrificial of heroes. Furthermore, when wearing their PPE, they are deprived of simple amenities like having a pocket to put items in, or being able to wet their hair to cool down from the heat.

The Dorae-Suit provides externally wettable surfaces for evaporative cooling while remaining waterproof internally. These elements are designated at the head and belly area to provide surfaces for cooling. The ears and the big, round pocket also provide more surface area, making medical workers look friendly and approachable like Doraemon.
