THE PPE COUTURE

LOVE FROM THE HEARTLANDS
Wykidd Song

Wykidd Song is a veteran fashion designer who currently helms the label AKINN.

For Wykidd, COVID-19 has given rise to self-reflection and a hope for change, not only for himself and the way he lives, creates and consumes but for a more optimistic outlook for all.

The key lesson he has taken is respect. Although he has always held healthcare workers in high regard, the pandemic has highlighted that they cannot be commended enough for the tasks they undertake. The not-so-pretty side of taking care of patients makes their profession all the more noble.

To show his appreciation, he has applied the imagined ‘Gratitude of our homeland emitting love’ as a surface design onto PPE suits, to lighten the somber mood of stricken patients. There is an added pocket in which to slot a picture of the healthcare worker wearing the suit. This is to show the human side of the otherwise very functional suit, hoping it will inspire more than a smile.

Wykidd also hopes that our attitude towards healthcare frontliners will always be one of resounding gratefulness.
