THE PPE COUTURE

THE WOMEN BEHUND THE PPE
Gin Lee

Gin Lee is the co-founder of fashion label GINLEE Studio.

As a womenswear designer, Gin’s immediate thought was to look into the fit and appearance of the PPE suit for women. It has often been reported that the PPE suit is usually designed with male bodies in mind. As it is ill-fitted for women, female healthcare workers risk increased discomfort and exposure. Often, it dwarfs the healthcare worker who is wearing it, which does nothing to make her feel confident and powerful in her role.

Gin strongly believes that a better fit can boost the morale and mental well-being of the wearer — and that this positivity can then be felt by patients. Using currently available PPE material, Gin employed partial crystal pleating for a better fit in the one-size garment. The fit, ease of movement, accessibility and look of the outfit were considered, putting the wearer in the centre of the design.
