Advent Charter
Lim Jing Hong Brandon

Brandon is a multi-disciplinary designer who is constantly looking for new ways to bring about meaningful and constructive discourse on contemporary social issues. As an architectural designer by day, he also dabbles in various design work and art forms in his waking hours, with a body of work ranging from public sculpture to paintings made from plastic bags. Brandon also draws his inspiration from the obvious and the mundane; the overlooked and underappreciated, where he serendipitously finds outlier connections through the invisible threads of reality.

The COVID-19 pandemic cast a glaring spotlight on foreign workers' living conditions. More often than not, these workers are merely viewed as labour providers who fuel our insatiable appetite for growth, overlooking the fact that they are individuals content to have the chance to earn a living.

Advent Charter is a playful illustration that compares the workers' dormitories with the ubiquitous vending machine. Unless we change our perception of them, these workers will remain token, generic and dispensable.
