2050, AN INTEGRATED PLUG-IN COMMUNITY. A POST COVID-19 SOCIETY.

2020: we saw a pandemic that swept through Singapore’s migrant worker community and their living quarters. A single migrant worker’s personal space and his access to basic amenities, hygiene, and privacy all came into scrutiny. While national policies and design guidelines regarding workers’ dormitories evolved to respond to the nation’s call for better living environments for the migrant workers, efforts at social integration remain lacking.
2050: a snapshot of a utopian future. We see self-sustaining living modules plugging themselves into the existing fabric, forming integrated living communities. Drones carrying raw materials are controlled by future workers through virtual reality projections. We see technology and humans forming symbiotic relationships and transforming the way work is done in the construction industry. Personal space also becomes “gold” as future workers live in these single man living modules. 2050 is a renewed world. A world where communities are integrated and workers are valued.
