BLUEPRINT OF THE GARDEN CITY
Lee Hui Lian
During the Circuit Breaker, Hui Lian delighted in disturbing the mimosa plants that had been sprouting on sidewalks and unassuming patches of open field.
When we talk about crafting the Garden City, we sometimes forget the indigenous species that are inherently part of the green fabric, such as the mimosa plant.
Much like the plant, foreign workers are a key component of our ecosystem, and their importance is often taken for granted. Hui Lian envisions that instead of centralised dormitories, workers’ accommodation might develop organically across different parts of Singapore, allowing more breathing space between the clusters and perhaps becoming a more integrated part of society.
