TOGETHERWEBUILD: EMERGENCY MODULAR TEMPORARY
A SELF-INITIATED/PRO BONO PROJECT BY Alan Kuey / AK+ARCHIPEDIA, Vivian Lim / TEDXSINGAPORE, Kelly Cheng / THE PRESS ROOM
How can designers contribute meaningfully to the urgent needs arising from the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the migrant workers’ community? The strategy is to look into fast, practical and immediate solutions that can help the migrant workers’ situation and keep them safe.
By radically rethinking traditional community housing in the context of a pandemic and re-examining built relief shelters in neighbouring countries, the designers came up with a modular structure that could meet these needs, with an emphasis on the inhabitants’ wellness while taking into account realistic costs and construction time; functional living spaces; and the sustainable, responsible use of building materials.
